CRPS Treatment

Treating Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Although complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) isn’t common in Dallas, Texas, it sometimes does occur. CRPS is a type of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or a leg. Some people in Dallas, Texas, can develop CRPS after an injury, stroke, surgery or heart attack. But what makes the condition so unusual is that the pain usually is out of proportion with the severity of the initial injury.

Causes of CRPS in Dallas, Texas

The exact cause of CPRS is not yet truly understood. There are two types of CRPS: Type 1 – Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome occurs after an illness or injury that doesn’t directly damage the nerves in the affected limb, but intense pain can result anyway. About 90%opf the cases of CRPS fall into this category. Type 2 – Once known as causalgia, this type of CRPS occurs after a distinct nerve injury. CRPS often occurs after a crushing injury, fracture or amputation of a leg or arm. But other traumas –such as heart attacks, infections, surgery and even sprained ankles –can sometimes lead to CRPS. Emotional stress has been known to trigger the condition as well.
